大地に寝転がる。
無防備に。何も考えず。
そのとき感じるものは何だろう。
土のにおい、草のにおい、湿ったぬくもり。
自分の呼吸。
圧迫される内臓。
血液の流れ。

“Lie face down on the ground.
Defenseless. Without thinking anything.
What do you feel?
The smell of earth, the smell of grass, the warmth of damp,
and your breath.
Oppressed internal organs.
Blood flow.”

仏教の礼拝の方法のひとつに、両手・両膝・額を地面に投げ伏し、

対象への絶対的な帰依を表す「五体投地」という礼拝方法があるという。

この作品は、作者がうつぶせで寝転がった時の、
手の指先から足の先までの長さを直径に持つ円を媒体として、
身体と大地のはざまでおこる出来事を抽出しようと試みることを目的としている。

大地に身を投げ出すということは、尺度としての身体と同時に、

それに反射して現れる「生きている身体」への自覚とつながる。

五体投地図は、大地と自分をはかるための装置であり、
同時に身体の自覚をするための装置でもある。

The project was inspired by “Gotai Tochi” a manner of worship in the Buddhism. Gotai Tochi is for expressing people’s absolute devotion, with lie face down and fully stretches his/hers arms and legs on the ground.

Works of the project was made for things to observe carefully that occurred between a body and ground in way of actually lie face down on the ground. Then, I tried to detect with all of sensory organs everything that I can feel through that act.

Circles of each the works has the exact same diameter as the length from my fingertip to tiptoe when I lie face down on the ground. Lie face down on the ground, you could realize that not only a variety of information from the ground such as hardness and temperature of soil, smell of cut grass, noise of someone’s steps, etc, but also the existence of your body. You ccould feel throbbing heart and vessel, breathing, oppressed organs, blood flowing, etc as a reflection to feel the ground.

The work was made to measure invisible facts between people and the ground, to rediscover the existence of our body.
